This was my cover for 30 under 30, and I kind of like it. However, when newsroom people saw it, it took them a while to realize that it's a lightbulb. That confuses me, because it seems obvious to me, but I'm clearly biased. So, I'm taking a poll. Does this look like a lightbulb to anyone else?

Critique: Does this look like a lightbulb?
This was my cover for 30 under 30, and I kind of like it. However, when newsroom people saw it, it took them a while to realize that it's a lightbulb. That confuses me, because it seems obvious to me, but I'm clearly biased. So, I'm taking a poll. Does this look like a lightbulb to anyone else?

Cool idea! I think the reason people are responding that way is because it is turned on its side. Lightbulbs are rarely horizontal like that which probably is why it's hard to read that way.
ReplyDeleteI think the silver part is also probably too small and usually has a slight point at the end that would help make it more readable.
Other than that, I think it looks like a light bulb.
I like the type treatment on this cover. The colors and text remind me of a chalk board for some reason.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a light bulb. But I agree with Michelle. I don't think people imagine light bulbs sideways very often. This reminds me of something you would see in a closet or basement with a pull chain or something.
